Job description
The Grange School is seeking to recruit a School Nurse on a full time, term time only basis working 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
This post which will have wide ranging responsibilities for both schools. Reporting to the Senior Deputy Head the School Nurse will provide medical support to both the Senior and Junior Schools. The role will work closely with School pastoral staff for the care of both pupils and staff.
Responsibilities:
To provide a high standard of service within NMC guidelines to pupils. This will include:
- Organising and running nurse drop-in health and welfare clinics for pupils.
- Providing first aid and emergency care as necessary.
- Providing a confidential advice service as appropriate in conjunction with the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and other pastoral staff.
- Ensuring care plans are developed and written for pupils requiring them, e.g. in cases of asthma, epilepsy, diabetes and anaphylaxis.
- Organising and administering any immunisation procedures as requested by the local Health Authority.
- Under the direction of the school’s leadership carryout operating procedures for the control of infectious diseases, including emergency planning and liaising with the local Health Authority as appropriate.
- Administering pre-prescribed medications and routine medications under protocol and keeping accurate dispensing records.
- Maintaining the stock in the treatment rooms and being responsible for the hygiene and tidiness of the area.
- Promoting health education in conjunction with the Head of PSHE.
- Ensuring the provision of and access to a range of appropriate publicity materials on student health issues.
- Teaching top up first aid to other staff and pupils as appropriate once the necessary FAW training has been completed.
- Organising the provision of nursing to cover weekend sports fixtures in conjunction with the Sports Department.
- Maintaining the stock of all School first aid kits.
- Providing health information to staff organising school trips, in particular for residential and overseas visits.
- Maintaining all School medical records accurately, confidentially and safely.
- Involvement in child protection as applicable issues for which the necessary training will be provided.
- Maintaining appropriate control of the Medical Centre budget for first aid supplies.
- Keeping up-to-date with professional developments through the Royal College of Nursing, and the Independent Schools Nurses Special Interest Group.
- Providing teaching staff with general training about the initial care of pupils with medical needs.
- Feed into key medical policies.
- Adhering to the NMC code of professional conduct and being conversant with the scope of professional practice and other NMC advisory papers.
