An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a School Nurse with a SCPHN qualification within South Ayrshires Health and social Partnership.
Applicants are required to be registered on part 1 and 3 of the NMC Register, however consideration will be given to those only part 1 on the NMC register and willing to undertake the SCPHN Qualification, the successful candidate of which will be required and supported to attend the UWS School Nursing course on a full time, one year basis.

You will be a strengths based practitioner who is forward thinking and committed to delivering our values of caring, safe and respectful.

You will work in partnership with local children and their families alongside colleagues in the NHS and partnership agencies to enable children and young people achieve their optimum outcomes in health.

You will be well organised, have excellent communication skills and be passionate about improving outcomes for our children and young people. An awareness of the Children and Young People Scotland Act (2014), GIRFEC policy, The Promise and the School nursing reformed role and pathways is essential

  • To Improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families through the delivery of the pathway areas outlined within the Scottish Governments National School Nursing Pathway (2015) including:
  • Child Protection
  • Care Experienced Children
  • Emotional/Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Homelessness
  • Domestic Violence
  • Substance Abuse
  • Young Carers
  • Sexual Health
  • Youth Justice
  • Transitions


It is important to note that as a full time student attendance at university and all holidays will be set by the University, Practice placements will be arranged in various locations across Ayrshire Universal Early Years’ Service with Practice Teachers or School Nurse mentors.
You must be a 1st level registered nurse with excellent communication skills, the academic study commitment, and ability to be flexible and work within a large team

You will be deferred to commence training will work within school nursing teams prior to commencement of training.

Competitive entry requirements will include the need for a written assignment, presentation and interview.

Current experience working with Children and Young People and working in multidisciplinary teams, as well as experience of caseload management is desirable.
