Job description
To provide a first level in-house counselling service/emotional support for individual pupils to aid their personal development and learning. The post holder will work with students who are identified by the school as in need of support and will devise and provide appropriate strategies, giving advice and guidance to teachers and support staff.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Provide face to face first level counselling with individual pupils who require support to overcome difficulties in order to help them achieve their full potential and develop emotional literacy.
2. Devise and use a variety of approaches, strategies and programmes in order to aid pupils’ personal development and promote a positive attitude to learning.
3. Encourage emotional literacy by developing and maintaining a suitable physical space within the school for individual children to be able to relax and talk.
4. Through active listening, coaching and appropriate play activities, support children in identifying, understanding and managing their emotions.
5. Liaise with relevant school staff to provide appropriate information and advice on strategy and to receive relevant information
6. Keep and maintain brief and appropriate notes in accordance with school policy, safeguarding procedures and data protection and ensure confidentiality of content.
7. Attend training as required.
