School bus drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. School bus drivers pick up students as a designated location, such as street corners or private homes and drop them off at school. ****PLEASE CALL 406-293-8845 FOR JOB INQUIRY**** Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and to and from school activities following district safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations. 2. Operate and safely drive a school bus in either good or adverse weather, road and traffic conditions while transporting passengers to school or special events. Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner. 3. Communicate bus rules/safety and behavior requirements to passengers; and address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills. 4. Communicate with student’s parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills. 5. Assist students/passengers boarding and unloading the bus when necessary, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment. 6. Inspect buses daily identify and report deficiencies. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid/fuel levels, tire pressure checks, wash/ clean internal/external, and install tire chains, and any other normal daily maintenance as required. 7. Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. 8. Responsible to know rules, regulations (Federal, State and District) and laws concerning operation of a school bus; and comply with all traffic regulations. 9. Complete all records/reports timely and accurately such as pre-trip, post trip, route logs, mileage, student counts, seating charts, student reports, time sheets, and stop arm violations and submit to Transportation Department. 10. Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs. 11. Performs other duties as assigned by leadership. 12. Operation of a two-way radio. 13. Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions. 14. Responsible to work with Harlow’s Safety Manager on the implementation and compliance of all DOT and OSHA rules and regulations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid and/or eligible to hold a CDL drivers license to operate a school bus as required by State Law with passenger “P”, school bus “S” endorsement with no airbrake restriction and a good driving record. Drivers must comply with part 391 of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and obtain/ sustain US DOT Medical Examiners Certificate. Obtain/ sustain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire if required. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one passengers, parents and other employees of the organization. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
