About The Job
Salary: £20,441 to £20,812 per annum (pro rata for part time) £10.60 to £10.79 per hour
Working Pattern: Part time 5.5 hours per week (Saturdays)
Location: Lancing Library, Penstone Park, Lancing BN15 9DL and Shoreham Library St Mary's Rd, Shoreham-by-Sea BN43 5ZA

We are currently seeking two Saturday Library Assistants to come and join us at Lancing Library and Shoreham Library
Our Saturday Assistants are a key initial contact delivering customer-facing library services. You will work Saturdays welcoming customers often unable to visit the library during weekdays.
It’s an active role; carrying and shelving books, pushing trolleys, lifting boxes and being on your feet for long periods of time.
The job includes welcoming a range of customers, shelving books and other resources, solving basic library queries and helping customers use computers.

Experience and Skills
To succeed as a Saturday Library Assistant you will be friendly, enthusiastic and hardworking with excellent digital skills and the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately to a set deadline.
You will be a keen team player, able to work alongside other library staff and volunteers providing excellent customer service to the whole range of visitors to the library.
Good communication skills are key as you will be helping customers of all ages and answering their queries, referring to senior library staff when necessary.
Key Skills:
- Good communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with the general public and experience of providing a service giving basic advice and guidance.
- Experience of team working and the ability to work as part of a team completing shared tasks, including working alongside volunteers.
- Ability to meet set deadlines, e.g. getting books organised and shelved on time.
- Ability to handle library resources with care and pass on any issues where appropriate.
- Numeracy and literacy skills in order to put resources into alpha/numeric order and to deal with handling cash or books on the helpdesk.
Qualifications and/or experience:
- 4 GCSEs grades 4-9 (C-A*) including Maths and English or equivalent qualification/ experience.
- Digital expertise and experience, particularly with basic Office applications.
