We are currently recruiting for a Sanctions Governance and Oversight Manager to join our Sanctions team in our London or Edinburgh office.
The Financial Crime Risk aligns current activities within Global Risk and helps to build these into a more integrated framework to conduct Customer Due Diligence which enables HSBC to manage financial crime risk more effectively. It builds stronger controls to improve the way Financial Crime Risks are managed to spot gaps as well as trends so that the team can take action. It proactively gathers and analyses financial intelligence in a smart way so that suspicious transactions, activities or connections can be identified, and we can adequately protect our customers from the threat of financial crime.
The role requires the individual to work collaboratively within the Global Sanctions Team, which is undergoing change and development. The individual will be required to use initiative to find solutions to problems and deal with items accurately and promptly, referring and escalating items to team members as appropriate.. The individual will be comfortable dealing with colleagues and others at all levels of seniority, including senior executives in Group Compliance and across the Sanctions function as well as the most senior Group management.
In this role, you will be:
- Ensuring effective Oversight on sanctions non-screening controls like Sanctions Risk Approvals to review if these controls are being approved or renewed consistently and appropriately across teams globally within each Region and Global Lines of Business,
- Identifying process improvements for the management of non-screening sanctions controls, including but not limited to Sanctions Risk Approvals, True Matches and Breaches/ Incident Management.
- Working with the Regional Sanctions teams to provide guidance on issues as they arise and ensure they progress to remediation/closure.
- Supporting the preparation of materials for submission to senior management, the regulators, and reported to the appropriate Sanctions governance forums
- Executing as required, Sanctions related policies, procedures and systems that ensure business exposure to Sanctions risks are tracked and managed, in a practical and effective manner.
- Assisting in managing the completion of reviews of sanctions reportable events/incidents raised in relevant system.
- Escalating sanctions threats and management issues to senior leadership, via reporting, so appropriate action can be undertaken in response
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Financial crime experience or broader Compliance experience preferred.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop sanctions and wider financial crime knowledge
- Ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings both to colleagues and senior management, together with the ability to support decisions with sound written and verbal reasoning
- Strong analytical skills with high level of skill in conducting analysis conveying results in format suitable for senior management
- Willingness to undertake a variety of tasks, including significant administrative duties, to support the team
This role could be based in London or Edinburgh working in the office 2 days per week.
