CLINICAL ENGINEERING SAFETY LEAD
NUH, formed by the merger of Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital in 2006, is a major NHS Trust providing acute and specialist healthcare services to the region. Its Clinical Engineering Department, part of the wider Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering service, is one of the largest in the country, offering a diverse range of medical device related services both to the Trust and external customers. It has collaborative links within the medical device industry, with academia and with other healthcare providers. The department is actively involved in clinical research, medical device development, technology transfer and specialist consultancy – as well as providing the comprehensive medical technology management, training and safety management services fundamental to the delivery of healthcare by the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Engineering are seeking to recruit a CLINICAL ENGINEERING SAFETY LEAD to act as a source of expertise in the safety of medical device technologies and applications – an exciting opportunity to perform a critical role in supporting and furthering best practices for the safe and optimal use of medical devices for the benefit and safety of patients and healthcare staff. A key aspect of the role will be the performance of detailed investigations into untoward incidents involving medical devices to determine causal and contributory factors, support learning and identify recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. The post-holder will also play a key role in the management of medical device safety alerts including their assessment, dissemination and support for the execution of necessary actions arising. The role additionally involves responsibility for management of occupational health and safety in the Clinical Engineering department’s facilities and operations in the delivery of its medical device services.

- Degree qualification in relevant subject .(or HNC/HND equivalent with apprenticeship)
- Professional training in relevant work environment

- Professional registration (eg: Incorporated Engineer; Registered Clinical Technologist, etc.).

- Extensive professional experience of hospital clinical engineering services, with a broad knowledge & experience of medical technology and its applications.

- Sound knowledge, and experience of its application, in the field of quality management systems and relevant standards

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

- Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
