As a Health and Safety Manager working with our Major Projects Directorate you will support the delivery of our Home Safe and Well plan through project and programme support, adding value through Client assurance; engaging with internal and external stakeholders to positively influence decision making and encouraging innovation.
You will primarily work to support the safe delivery of significant investment projects, however as part of the Safety, Engineering & Standards Health and Safety team you may be involved in supporting other projects and initiatives across the wider business.
You will use your knowledge, skills, and experience to offer support and advice on health and safety matters, ensuring that we are discharging our duties as both Employer and Client, while also making a valuable contribution to the development of our cultural and behavioural change programme. You will demonstrate our core values and behaviours by leading with passion and integrity and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as a team.
The role will involve working from one of our offices such Bristol or Bedford (other locations may be considered) with occasional travel to Birmingham, as well as travelling to site. Hybrid working arrangements are an option and will be discussed at interview. You will need to have a full clean driving licence for this position.
What you’ll be leading on
- Undertake assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle, writing good quality reports, and raising actions where necessary.
- Ensure that incident reviews and associated actions plans are developed to a satisfactory standard and assure against corrective measures given.
- Monitor and review health and safety performance, providing valuable insight to colleagues that will help inform management decisions.
- Support the implementation of the strategic HS&W objectives. Providing advice and guidance on health and safety matters, sharing learning and best practice where possible.
- Support the development and implementation of relevant health and safety unit plans and initiatives ensuring a consistent approach is delivered.
- Engage with, and provide guidance to colleagues, empowering them to ambassadors of health, safety, and wellbeing.
To be successful
- Hold a degree or diploma level qualification in HS&W, and membership of a recognised professional body, e.g. IOSH or IIRSM.
- Have demonstrable experience of working within Client organisations or similar in developing supply chain strategies.
- Have demonstrable experience and knowledge of CDM 2015, managing and assuring health and safety in design or construction, preferably working for a major infrastructure asset owner or developer.
- Have demonstrable knowledge of performance data analysis, and incident investigation including the ability to identify trends and present it simply and accurately.
- Experience of undertaking and reporting on audit and assurance activities in a clear and concise manner that adds value and applies the principles of prevention.
