The Purpose of the role:
- Design and production of the Functional Safety Briefs supporting ongoing compliance against operational and occupational risk management requirements.
- Ensuring that changes to the SMS are clearly communicated and understood by the business utilising all communication mediums including safety briefs.
- Informing the ongoing development of SMS procedures to ensure structure, presentation and content supports the diversity and inclusion strategy.
- Ownership of operational documentation ensuring content remains up-to-date and is readily accessible and utilised by the functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure that the Safety Briefing structure is consistently delivered and in line with CMS and Risk
- Management requirements. Creating a cross functional baseline and working with the functions to develop specific items based on functional and role specific requirements.
- Ensure general safety principles and messaging is delivered in safety briefs in a consistent manner.
- Support the delivery of face-to-face safety briefs, simulation exercises and engagement roadshows to ensure SMS content is delivered in an engaging and meaningful way.
- Lead on the development of engagement plans and delivery to support the understanding of SMS change, working with key stakeholders to ensure changes are clearly communicated and understood.
- Lead on the development of SMS templates to ensure procedures, standards and forms presented in a format that allows for them to be clearly understood and communicated.
- Lead on the update and production of operational documents (including but not limited to Traction Manuals, Professional Policies, Rule Book Appendices, Good Practice Guides and Working Instructions).
- Analyse investigation outcomes/other relevant data to identify emerging trends and opportunities for proactive and preventative measures to focus on improved safety
- Partner with Operational teams to seek areas of opportunity for increasing Engagement levels and understand functional/local level needs.
- Work cross functionally with HR/L&D/OH to develop, and deliver training focussed on continuing professional development.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient in MS Officer PowerPoint or e-learning software
- Understanding of effective teaching techniques and ways to engage learners
- Ability to design and deliver a diverse range of content, presenting key data logically and credibly
- Ability to build strong relationships with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to create engaging learning content that deliver key safety updates and standards
- Ability to work at pace to deliver timely communications/learning initiatives in accordance with operational requirements
- Appreciation of the routes and traction types, operated by EMR
- Hold Operational competence at Senior Conductor/Train Manager level
- Must hold Assessing Qualification (A1) or have similar experience gained from Mentoring/Instructing.
