We have an immediate opening for a Process Safety Engineer. Reporting to the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, this position is responsible for implementing and maintaining systems to reduce risk to diminish or remove hazards at the Hatfield, PA Electronics Gas Plant. The Process Safety Engineer actively works in the plant operating areas to implement, update, improve PSM systems and processes, standards, procedures, and communicates critical PSM/RMP related performance information to the HSE Department. This position will be instrumental in driving compliance with the Hatfield site Responsible Care program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate various forms of hazard analysis including Hazard and Operability Studies (HazOp) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Steward the PHA Program and oversee the life cycle for the PHA process.
- Lead development of interim risk reduction strategies for high consequence scenarios
- Champion process safety in assigned Operating Areas:
- Lead monthly PSM meetings.
- Interact regularly and frequently with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to build rapport and to be aware of, and assist with resolving, process safety issues.
- Develop and deliver training on process safety management and related topics.
Advise on interpretation and application of internal and external standards.- Lead/participate in incident investigations, review causal trees, and ensure post incident lessons learned and incident prevention strategies are implemented.
- Provide leadership and technical support to the facility's staff as well as associated process safety programs and their initiatives.
- Oversee the collection and reporting of PSM and RMP related performance measures.
- Act as key participant with the Responsible Care program, driving compliance in this area.
- Maintain knowledge of and competency in current affairs and contemporary issues of OSHA Process Safety Management & EPA Risk Management Plan.
- Perform training, lead team meetings, compose and deliver presentations to various groups at all levels of the organization.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or technical related field.
- 2 years' minimum combined experience in safety, operations, maintenance and/or engineering in the gases or chemical industries required; 5 years' preferred.
- Experience in conducting hazards analysis, management of change process reviews and risk management analysis
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills demonstrating the ability to impact internal and external customers.
- Proficient in multitasking and planning multiple projects simultaneously.
- 2 years of Responsible Care program management experience preferred.
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite; SolidWorks and/or CAD preferred.
- Ability to pass a background screening and drug test.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions.
- Ability to perform the physical labor necessary, including moving/lifting up to 50 pounds.
