Job description
Work as part of the Technical Public Health (non-food safety) team to provide public health support to MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys ships and corporate teams.
- Fluent English, verbal and written.
- Experience as a shipboard Public Health Officer or Hotel Engineer. Degree in public\/environmental health or engineering can replace onboard experience.
- Proficient knowledge of the VSP Operations Manual, VSP Construction guidelines, EU ShipSan Manual, and HACCP principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)•Excellent time management, organisation, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to relate to staff at all levels.
- Periodic international and shipboard travel will be required.
- Coordinate the fleet Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
- Communicate with the shoreside consulting company, NutraStat.
- Follow-up findings identified during NutraStat ship audits and other inspections\/audits with IPM nonconformities.
- Review monthly ship IPM logs and follow-up on NutraStat log reviews.
- Follow-up on orders from ships, monitoring orders\/invoices, and monitor ship IPM stocks.
- Coordinate equipment and set-up supply orders for new ships under construction prior to delivery.
- Update SOPs and internal training related to onboard IPM.
- Visit ships if there is an urgent pest related concern.
- Work with Coordinator, Fleet Public Health to arrange ship audits and coordinate training schedules.
- Review ship internal and external public health inspections and follow up with the ships for technical areas.
- Assist with selecting and tracking of technical shipboard personnel attending international training seminars including US Vessel Sanitation Program and EU ShipSan.
- Provide public health guidance to ship Public Health Officers (PHO) and other shipboard and corporate personnel.
- Assist with updating technical public health related procedures.
- Participate in the investigation of any increase in acute gastroenteritis cases, any single case of legionellosis, and any out of limits water testing results.
- Analyse data from the vessels regarding nonconformities identified during external inspections\/audits, internal audits, and ship PHO inspections and suggest procedural updates.
- Assist with creation of non-food safety related educational materials, including presentations and printed items.
