An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person ready to join our busy team as a Safeguarding Finance Officer, specialising in financial safeguarding within Exchequer Services.
The Financial Safeguarding Team and Care Finance Administration Team jointly manage the financial affairs of vulnerable adults who have been assessed to lack mental capacity to manage their own finances, on behalf of the Council who act as corporate court appointed deputy or Department of Work and Pensions appointee.
Both teams work alongside each to deliver an efficient and effective service working with adult social care colleagues, partner agencies, care providers and other professionals in order to safeguard a service user's financial affairs.
As a valued member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting the team leader in maintaining the quality and performance of the team. You must have strong technical knowledge to provide direction and act as a technical reference to manage team performance and meet relevant regulations.
You will be responsible for processing deputyship applications and liaising with deputy solicitors as well as managing your own caseload of deputyship cases, thus managing all aspects of a person's financial affairs. You will be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, have a high attention to detail, be able to prioritize tasks ensure you meet deadlines and effectively manage your own workload.
You will be a confident communicator, with the ability to communicate professionally, effectively and empathetically with service users and their families, providing accurate advice and guidance. You will also be able to form good working relationships with social care colleagues and managers, the Department of Work and Pensions, Officer of Public Guardian and Court of Protection, financial institutions and various partner agencies.
You will need to demonstrate an understanding of financial safeguarding and knowledge of the role of the Office of the Public Guardian, Court of Protection and Department of Work and Pensions.
This role is based at County Hall, Preston however currently may work from home. All flexible working requests will be considered for the successful candidate.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Extended experience or the ability to demonstrate the competence to undertake the role.
- Possession of, or the ability to demonstrate the capability to gain, relevant qualifications or equivalent where applicable.
- Working knowledge of the practices, processes, and procedures relevant to the role.
- Continuous review of procedures and work plans in order to improve operations, performance and efficiency requiring ongoing analysis of management and financial information.
- Coach staff through the identification of training and development needs to equip them to deliver effective and responsive services
- Skills appropriate to the job discipline.
You will be required to provide a car for use in connection with the duties of this post and must be insured for business use. However, we may consider you if you cannot drive because of a disability.
