This Air Traffic Control Assistant (ATCA) position is based within the Control Tower of RNAS Yeovilton situated in the beautiful Somerset countryside and include rotations at RNAS Merryfield. The ATCA appointments of are part of a mixed military and civilian team responsible for the delivery of Air Operations and Air Traffic Control services to aviation customers, allied agencies, and Station Command. The ATCA is an essential role in the safe and expeditious operation of aircraft, where effective communication and timing is critical. It is a very rewarding position, working with the best Military and Civilian personnel at the hub of a busy Royal Navy Air Station that conducts a wide range of activities to support both operational tasking and training activities. Applicants seeking part time and job share will only be considered provided full time cover can be achieved. This ATCA vacancy is for a 'day worker' position and is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Assistant to the Visual Control Room team (Yeovilton/Merryfield), communicating with aircraft operators and other internal and external agencies, to facilitate efficient traffic management and updating information regarding planned flights and the status of aircraft airborne.
Assistant to the Radar Controllers, liaising with other Air Traffic Control agencies to facilitate the transfer of aircraft between units and updating computerised flight information.
Runway Control Vehicle operations situated at the end of the runway to check fixed wing aircraft safe take-off and landing configurations.
Use of sophisticated communication equipment, including radios.
Use of pyrotechnic flares.
When suitably qualified and experienced, conducting training of uniformed and civilian personnel to function independently within the organisation.

Person specification

It is a requirement of the role to be ‘HGV medically fit’. Candidates will be required to successfully pass an HGV medical to fulfil the role. Ideally candidates should already be Class 2 HGV driver qualified. However, Class 2 HGV in-house driver training can be provided which must be completed (to qualification) within the 6-month probationary period of employment. If an individual is unable to meet the required standard of driving qualification within their probationary period of employment, the Department is not obliged to find another position and their employment will be terminated. ATCAs. In order to provide assurance, ATCAs are subject to periodic standards standardisation checks. undertaken by the Assistant Standards Lead.
