We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Rotational Band 5 Dietitian with a passion for food and nutrition to join our friendly and supportive adult acute team at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust.
The Dietitians at the Royal United Hospital include acute adult, paediatric and community dietetic teams and you will rotate between the teams every 6 months. There will also be opportunities to work across inpatients, outpatients and domiciliary settings and review patients from multiple specialties. You will work, learn and develop alongside Speech and Language, Occupational and Physiotherapy colleagues and work collaboratively for the benefit of our patients.
We are always looking for ways to improve patient care and the Dietetics department is excited to have led on the purchase of an indirect calorimeter, via charitable funds, to improve our estimation of nutritional requirements which the post holder will have opportunity to train on and use in their clinical practice.
We train student dietitians from the University of Plymouth and this post will be actively involved with student training.
Responsible for a clinical case load of patients, with a range of conditions, requiring competent clinical practice for inpatients and outpatients with guidance and support from more experienced colleagues as required.
Individually responsible for assessment of need, determination and monitoring of treatment or requirements. This will involve nutritional diagnosis, interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics and clinical condition, with guidance and support from more experienced colleagues as required.
Communicates complex information effectively to a variety of people, in a variety of settings and utilises persuasive, motivational, and counselling skills, to assist inbehavior change.
Takes responsibility for ensuring that patients and carers have consented prior to dietetic intervention, in line with professional guidelines.
Considers the practical implications of advice and tailors information to the individual circumstances of the patients, families and staff involved.
Undertakes in-patient and out-patient consultations, and group patient education. Telephone consultations may form part of this post.
Facilitates referral to the appropriate agency or health care colleagues on identification of non-dietetic need; or if referrals require more specific specialist advice.
Liaises with hospital and community based staff, GPs, dietetic colleagues and support workers to provide an integrated approach to patient care including individual case management.
