The IWS&I Risk Manager role is based in Business Support Management within GPB, supporting IWS&I (previously Wealth Management & Insurance) and GPB businesses from a risk management perspective . The role is a key member of the Risk team within IWS&I and is in place to support the Head of IWS&I UK and Head of UK Private bank in the management of operational risk and the monitoring of internal controls.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage continual reassessment of the operational risks inherent in the business, so as to minimise exposure to customer detriment, losses and fraud and maintain operational integrity.
  • Maintain a balanced approach to risk management through the continued development and operation of HSBC internal controls, ensuring consistent approach and assessment of effectiveness to meet all regulatory and FIM requirements.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships across IWS&I UK, and wider 2nd Line of Defence colleagues, where challenges and risks are openly discussed.
  • Deliver and manage Operational Risk Management through IWS&I ensuring the relevant risks are identified, and that effective controls are in place to protect the business.
  • Carry out a rolling program of deep dives on deficient controls to ensure the underlying processes are operating effectively, and where any are assessed as needing improvement implementing action plans to address any deficiencies.
Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Extensive experience working in an operational risk environment (1LOD or 2LOD).
  • Past working experience in a relevant role, e.g. Wealth, Risk Management, Private Banking.
  • A track record of gaining an understanding of customers' needs and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences.
  • An understanding of regulatory requirements relating to Wealth and Insurance products, and their impact of risk management
  • This is a hybrid role with the base location being Birmingham, Whitely or London
