Summary
Revenues and benefits is a multi-functional department that delivers key statutory functions. The team calculates and collects income by way of local taxes, council tax, non-domestic rates and receives payments in respect of sundry debts and other miscellaneous income. The team also administers the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction scheme and free school meals through a robust assessment process.

About the role
Although the team carries out a number of statutory functions you will focus on monitoring development and reviewing discounts and exemptions awarded. It will require you to visit and inspect domestic and commercial properties, mainly within the North Wiltshire area.
You will be joining a successful and high-performing Revenues and Benefits Service that are based in a number of locations across Wiltshire. You will handle queries regarding all aspects of Council Tax, Welfare Benefit, and Business Rate inquiries in person, over the “phone” and by post, answering queries and giving relevant advice. You will receive information regarding customers and their change in circumstances, information from landlords, and electronic data from the DWP. A rolling training programme will be offered to develop your knowledge of all aspects of the service.
About you
This role requires you to demonstrate effective team working and problem-solving skills and the ability to combine these with a confident and resilient personality. As a Revenue and Benefits Assessment Officer, you will ideally have knowledge of income and banking processes with at least a year’s experience of working in credit control, customer services, or ideally a similar length of experience working within a Revenues and Benefits environment. The successful candidate will be used to working under pressure, to tight deadlines, and able to cope with conflicting priorities. As well as numerate, you will need to interrogate and input data into a variety of software systems which requires an eye for detail and accuracy.
