The Role
As a member of the Valuations Team at cap hpi, the role is responsible for analysing retail advertised data from a number of sources and assisting in producing accurate retail values for cars and LCVs. A full review of the current methodology and investigating alternative ways to produce dynamic values that reflect the automotive retail market is also a key part of the role, whilst also liaising with current and forecast valuation teams to provide proactive data analysis to maintain and improve accuracy of all valuation products.
What You’ll Do
Key Activities
- Research, maintain and offer recommendations to any market-led changes to cap hpi’s retail values.
- Develop improved internal analytics/reporting allowing cap hpi valuations team to be proactive to changes in the retail market.
- Produce reports illustrating accuracy levels of retail values for both cars and LCV, by analyzing advert data and value evidence.
- Interrogate previously devised methodology for dynamic retail values, using SQL data analytics & provide recommendations on accuracy with a view of going to market with revised methodology.
- Using Power BI, create dashboards and promote self-service insights to support monthly editorials, webinars and PR.
- Produce analysis on “days in stock” at retailers.
- Manage relationships with retail data suppliers, ensuring daily supply of data is maintained. Liaise with technical teams from cap hpi & suppliers as necessary.
- Provide analysis of regional differences of retail prices & days to sell.
- Assist editors with customer queries related to retail values.
- Provide analysis of differences between franchise dealers, independent retailers, car supermarkets and online sales outlets.
- Provide insight to the editorial team on new car discount levels at manufacturer and model level.
- Periodic review of cap hpi transactional values for insurance industry.
- Assist in developing a system to futureproof valuations for all vehicle types, including electric vehicles.
- Provide general analytics on age & mileage profile accuracy.
- Assist with general analytics for current & forecast values for cars & LCVs.

- Provide transparency on valuation accuracy for internal and external presentation.

What You’ll Bring
- An interest or experience in the automotive industry is desired but not essential.
- A background in, and an enthusiasm and passion for, data analysis.
- Intermediate / Advanced T-SQL query writing and data extraction skills.
- Experience of Microsoft Power BI desired, to build automated dashboards and reports.
- An inquisitive and proactive approach to data and problem-solving.
- A keen attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
- Experience of working both independently and collaborating as part of a team.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritise time.
