We are currently recruiting for BANK Van Drivers to work within our Retail operation. Serving as a support to our non-furniture and furniture shops. Non-furniture role includes collecting and distributing donations for our shops across Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes and Hertfordshire. Whilst working for our charity furniture operation, you will be part of a two-person team collecting and delivering items of furniture from private addresses across the retail estate and representing Keech Hospice Care to the general public. Some heavy lifting is required.
Currently, we operate long and medium wheel base Hi-Top Ford Transit vans which you will have experience in driving or similar. You must be over 21 years old (for insurance purpose) and a full clean driving license is essential.
This position will be covering our Distribution Centre drivers as required for holiday leave and absence. Short notice availability may be required. At present, we work Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Job description - Retail Driver
Responsible to:

Distribution Centre & Fleet Manager

Goal:

Keech Hospice Care have a network of shops across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Milton Keynes. Our shops generate a substantial level of income and goodwill to enable us to care for children and adults with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. At the heart of our retail estate is our Distribution Centre (DC) responsible for the storage, logistics and management of our retail stock package inc. furniture.

As a professional driver the role will require you to assist in the needs of our retail operation. This will primarily include the collection and delivery of donated and new goods across the retail estate. This includes assessing, collecting, and delivering donated items of furniture from the public, supporting our furniture shops, continually demonstrating high standards of customer service and driving Gift Aid performance.
They will support and assist the DC & Fleet Manager, the Retail Operations Team and shops to achieve and exceed annual sales and net contribution targets and support the overall logistics of the retail fleet, and Distribution Centre.

Job Purpose:

To support the Distribution Centre (DC) operation and logistics of the van delivery and collection services including the furniture operation.
To be support and assist the operational management of the DC.
To support the DC volunteers.

Specific Duties:

Distribution Centre
Ensure shop orders are fulfilled to maximum stock availability and clear shops of excess product as required.
Effectively housekeep the Distribution Centre in the course of your duties.
Properly uses and maintains manual handling equipment supplied by KHC.
Inform management of any obstructions to making safe and efficient deliveries on time.
Plan route daily for the furniture collections/deliveries in an to maximise fuel efficiency, minimise journey times and drive productivity.
To liaise with Shop Managers and Area Managers to manage the weekly delivery schedule of stock, consumables, internal post and shop fittings to/from the retail shops and e-commerce operation.
To liaise with members of the public, and businesses, who offer donations and require collections.
Furniture Operation
Complete dynamic risk assessments of private address donations/collections to include safe entry and exit route and the identification and minimisation of possible hazards.
Assessment of donated items of furniture prior to collection to ensure they comply with safety and Trading Standards legal requirements and are of saleable quality.
Maintains communication with management and donors informing them of any issues affecting your daily schedule, including safety and access challenges.
Communicates with donors and shop management teams to update them on delivery times and changes as required.
Continually demonstrate high standards of customer service when dealing with private address collections and corporate business collections. Managing refusals of donations in a diplomatic and cautious manner, offering alternative solutions where applicable.
To drive the Gift Aid performance of all DC collections of furniture and non-furniture donations where possible. Maximise income from gift aid by utilising the processes set out and ensuring your vehicle is equipped to process Gift Aid.
Lead by example to embed Keech’s core values and standards in the way the organisation conducts its business with employees, volunteers, customers, donors, colleagues from other Keech departments, suppliers, local communities, and other charity retailers.
Collect donated items and assist at the Hospice when required.
Adhere to our internal post operation guidelines.

Health & Safety
To adhere to manual handling procedures in the movement of furniture and heavier donations.
Ensure incident and accidents are reported and processed in accordance with company policy.
To maintain clean correct uniform (provided) and utilise PPE as required.
To attend training and be aware of how to proceed in the event of a safeguarding situations.
Retail Fleet
To drive the Keech vehicles safely acting as ambassadors; to follow all road laws and rules of driving and park without causing nuisance.
To maintain a safe and healthy work environment within the Keech vehicle, and ensure the vehicles is safely secured at all times.
Assess your vehicle daily prior to and after driving, and to complete all necessary paperwork and records; reporting issues as required.
To maintain a clean Keech vehicle and ensure it is well-maintained, has fuel, oil, screen wash, coolant and AdBlue, and is ready to drive.
Ensure the safe and organised loading of products on the vehicle, utilising straps as required, to ensure that ALL stock is kept in a good and saleable condition and to minimise damage, ensuring the order matches the order in which the deliveries will be made.
To ensure loading of vehicles adheres to vehicle weight restrictions.
To drive safely in inclement weather such as snow, ice and rain. To risk assess the driving conditions and adapt driving pattern accordingly.
To maintain and monitor the use of your company mobile phone in line with company policy.

Experience

  • Proven experience as a clear and positive communicator.

  • Experience driving (up to 3.5 tonnes) for a Distribution Centre within a retail/charity business.
  • Experience in furniture delivery & collections.

Other

  • The role involves significant levels of manual handling.
  • Attending training sessions and meetings.
