Job description
Applications are invited for a Research Laboratory Floor Technician to join the Scientific Facilities team in the Wellcome - MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute.
We are a world-leading centre for stem cell research with a mission to transform the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease through a deep understanding of how stem cells work. We are based in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
As a Floor Technician, you will use your experience to provide support and assistance to researchers and ensure the smooth running of laboratories. You will have responsibility for communal equipment areas and maintenance and repair of core equipment, and will liaise with laboratory groups over any servicing which may impact their work.
You will contribute towards the management of health and safety in the Institute, providing training to researchers, writing COSHH and risk assessments and ensuring safety procedures are observed.
You will work closely with others as part of a small team and will be a key point of contact for staff, students and visitors, so excellent communication and teamworking skills are essential. You must also be able to work independently, prioritising tasks and organising your time accordingly.
You will ideally be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a science subject. Previous experience of working in a research laboratory environment and using a range of laboratory equipment is essential, along with experience of laboratory health and safety.
