Job description

Become a Restoration & Repair Volunteer

Delapre Abbey Preservation trust is a registered charity carrying out valuable work delivering a range of programmes and activities that support lifelong learning, curiosity, and an improved wellbeing for the community. We rely on help from volunteers to carry all day-to-day maintenance for the abbey.

Our volunteers speak of the sense of satisfaction that their volunteering brings them, knowing that they are helping improve the well-being of people who really need a helping hand along with sustaining the buildings heritage for future generations.

We have volunteering roles available for people with good overall DIY skills who can provide a wide range of general repairs and restoration tasks such as painting and decoration, furniture repairs and design, fitting installations and exhibitions, repairs to museum interactive displays and so much more!

Our volunteers can claim any out-of-pocket expenses that they incur and are fully insured for any work they carry out. Training will be provided outlining your volunteer role and there’s always advice available should you be unsure about any situations that arise.

Giving something back to your community can be incredibly rewarding. If you have the time and the skills we need please get in touch.

How much time will I be expected to give? Most of the tasks we ask you to complete will not be time critical so you will be able to give your time as and when it suits you.

What’s in it for you: As a person who enjoys getting stuck into “odd jobs”, you will relish being able to support the up keep of Delapré Abbey and grounds. In this role, you can experience the full property – house and parkland – as well as interacting with all staff and volunteers. You’ll receive the satisfaction of seeing your volunteering help to improve and maintain the site, keeping it at its very best.

Our Commitment to you:

We want your experience of volunteering to be as welcoming and enjoyable as possible:

· Treat you fairly and respectfully

· Recognise your contribution, whether that's with a simple thank you, with one of our regular social events or reciprocal visits

· Reimburse your travel expenses when you are volunteering

· Offer on-the-job training, optional talks and tours for you to learn more about Delapre Abbey and how we care for the Abbey and Grounds

· Give you a volunteer pass allowing you free entry to Delapre Abbey and discount within our retail and catering offers.

· Give you a reference with details of your volunteer role and responsibilities to show to future employers if required

Our Values

· Belonging – We want to create a sense that everyone belongs and has pride in their place.

· Respect – We care about people, no matter of who they are - everyone is included.

· Enthusiasm – We strive to make a difference with dynamism, and we push boundaries.

· Enterprising – We love heritage, but we love new approaches even more.
