Restaurant Team Leader - The Farmyard

£27,000 per annum plus tronc fantastic benefits.

40 hours per week across 5 days. Weekends and evenings required.

The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with ancient woodland, historic gardens and far-reaching views. A new and unique destination attracting recognition at the highest level, with luxury hotel, spa, restaurants and an abundance of homegrown produce. Our 300-year-old estate welcomes guests from all over the world; a home from home, delivering outstanding service in informal surroundings. Gardens, orchards, and treetop walkways inspire while roaring fires and a garden-scented spa offer true tranquility. Much of our food is sourced from the estate or trusted local farms and producers.


The Farmyard

A reimagined dairy nestled in the rolling Somerset hillside, our newest hotel project which houses 17 beautiful guest rooms within a newly renovated farmhouse with outbuildings. The Farmyard boasts a swimming pool, games room, complimentary bar and 40-cover restaurant. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner using the finest produce from the estate, we cook in a wood fired oven and our chefs serve straight to the table. Seasonally lead, hearty yet humble sharing dishes with wine served in a beautiful stone barn, with relaxed yet high-end service and open kitchen.


Our Restaurant Team Leader

The Restaurant Team Leader will ensure smooth and efficient running of the Farmyard. You will be confident, self-motivated, lead from the front and be passionate about hospitality. Prime focus will be on the guest experience throughout The Farmyard and how you and your team deliver and uphold exceptional service levels. You will be responsible for 8 FOH staff who all share the responsibilities of the department in its entirety. The position of Restaurant Team Leader is more diverse than a usual restaurant role, flexibility, ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to think on your feet are key for success. Hosting F&B services will be a primary focus, whilst monitoring the Garner Bar and offering support for the hotel and spa. The role requires care and ownership of the whole department. Creating and ensuring close working relationships with our Head Chef and Hotel Head Host are key, department fluidity is essential for the style of this unique business.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Farmyard runs in the most productive and efficient way through management of costs, staffing controls, understanding sales and forecasting.
  • Build knowledge on liaising departments to enhance your own ability to become more flexible within The Farmyard, enabling you to offer support to other teams when required.
  • Ensure the guest has the best possible experience, monitoring and managing guest expectations and make improvements where necessary.
  • Responsible for staff training, development and retention. Team productivity, performance and presentation are key.
  • Create systems to manage your team and overall presentation of your department to ensure high standards are upheld.
  • Farmyard F&B offering is to move with the seasons and are estate lead – liaise with kitchen and garden teams on a regular basis to ensure the best offering is always provided.
  • Maintain company representation, ensuring your working area, you and your team always look impeccable.
  • Ensure The Newt’s style of service and ethos is always upheld.
  • Ensure your team and their knowledge is current and correct, installing confidence in their delivery.
  • Liaise with events team to ensure private dining and special events are executed well throughout the department.
  • Responsible for stock control and costs.
  • Ensuring health and safety legislation is adhered to; this will involve appropriate training.


Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience at a supervisory level in a hotel or restaurant is required
  • Confident yet approachable with outstanding leadership skills
  • Great time management, self-motivating and driven
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Microsoft Office and good tech skills
  • Previous experience in Micros and Opera is desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to develop, grown and keep up with the demands of our developing business
  • Passion for food, beverage and luxury hospitality
