BBC Wales’s Scheduling and Planning Team support programme output across several areas from live O.B. events, continuing News output, Studio programmes etc. You will schedule staff and freelancers within a number of departments, but not limited to, Post Production, Studio & Outside Broadcasts, Audio, TV Presentation, Technology, Sport and Marketing & Audiences.
Our experienced team of Resource Schedulers are highly valued and an integral part of the operation, ensuring programmes are staffed by the right people who have the right skills.
We are pleased to be able to advertise a continuing role for a Resource Scheduler within our Planning and Scheduling team, initially working with the Post Production Team. Through our close and creative partnership with programme teams, this position is vital to scheduling staff and resources to programmes.
Reporting to the Business Advisor, the Resource Scheduler will work closely with colleagues, scheduling a multi-skilled team in the heart of the Planning and Scheduling department. They will be responsible for making decisions and adapting to changing circumstances quickly and capably. The post holder will require a detailed understanding of the principles of scheduling, Terms and Conditions, the Working Time Directive and have excellent communication skills.
You will contribute to the smooth running of a busy operational department as well as maintaining a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern.
Main ResponsibilitiesYou will work with the team, co-ordinating the daily running of the Operations department. This involves scheduling staff & technical facilities in accordance with programme requirements and conditions of service. You will provide information and support to the management team and have a competent level of skill across a range of systems.
You will be required to produce accurate schedules of work in advance aligned to Terms and Conditions and the Working Time Directive.
You will ensure the information in the scheduling system is accurate and updated within specified deadlines to allow for the production of accurate management and financial information.
Ensure that additional hours and days worked are recorded accurately on the scheduling system and have been sanctioned at the appropriate level.
Monitor the utilisation of resources and reports to ensure effective and efficient scheduling. You will run reports to ensure that information held on the system is accurate and complete, ensuring there is no missing data and/or costs to production.
Identify requirements for freelance and casual support over peak periods.

To undertake the role successfully, you will need to demonstrate the following key criteria:
- Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills, as well as demonstrating the ability to learn new processes quickly and efficiently.
- The ability to make best use of business systems, processes and the wider scheduling team’s skills.
- Experience of scheduling and admin systems.
- Extensive knowledge of the Working Time Directive combined with an understanding of how to schedule to specific working Terms and Conditions.
- You will be pro-active, be able to prioritise and plan activities, taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resource requirements.
- Welsh speaker is desirable.
