Residential Worker

Salary: £23,000 per annum pro-rata (£11.92 per hour)

Location: Rhydyfelin, Rhondda Cynon Taf

Contract/Hours: Permanent Part-time – 25 hours per week


The project is situated in easy commute of the M4 Cardiff and A470 Pontypridd/Merthyr Tydfil.

A UK Driving license is desirable but not essential for this role.

A bit about the role

Rhondda Short Breaks provides overnight short breaks for children and young people from Rhondda Cynon Taff who have physical disability, learning disabilities and complex needs.

Young people can stay at Ash Square from the age of five years up to their 18th birthday giving them a high-quality break from home and their families some much-needed rest.

Many of the children we support may have substantial and highly complex needs and playing outside benefits their health, wellbeing and development.


How you'll help to create brighter futures

We are now looking for an experienced Residential Worker who will help guide our mix of experienced and newly established team to create the best possible environment. You will be:

  • Leading with case and care planning for children and young people
  • Acting as shift lead for care staff which involves taking responsibility for those in your care
  • Administering medication and supporting children and young people with their personal care
  • Ensuring first-class standards of Safeguarding, Health and Safety and care interventions
  • Working closely with your Registered Manager and Team Leader to ensure objectives are met
  • Compiling reports, care plans and updates through IT and paper-based methods use

Let's talk about you

  • A Level 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification or a willingness to work towards it
  • Registration with Social Care Wales and completion of AWIF (All Wales Induction Framework) .
  • Experience of a similar role in a children's home, residential short breaks or children's services
  • Experience of supervising or receiving supervision in a care setting
  • Flexibility to work shifts to meet the needs of the service which is open 7 days a week
  • Understanding of Safeguarding, Confidentiality and GDPR and an awareness of social care legislation in Wales
