NSL is looking for a part-time night support worker who can work 1-2 shifts a week (The shifts pattern will be one shift week 1 then 2 shifts week 2, then 1 shift week 3 and 2 shifts week 4 and so on) . The shifts will be both weekday and weekend night shifts. The pay is £10.42 per hour for wake in hours only and a fixed rate for sleep in hours. Sleep in starts at 11.45pm.
The night shift hours are below:
Friday / Saturday Evening Shift - 18:30 - 10:00 (sleep in starts at 23:45)
Sunday to Thursday - Evening Shift - 18:30 - 09:00 (sleep in starts at 23:45)
Job Purpose:
To work within a team in order to provide a safe and secure home for young people in supported accommodation, staffed 24/7. Promoting a caring environment which provides children and young people with a high standard of support and care, meeting individual needs and ensuring everyone is treated with respect and dignity and rights to privacy, independence and choice are met.
NSL are committed to the protection and safeguarding of young people. The ideal candidate should have in depth knowledge and experience of working with young people and how to appropriately respond to safeguarding issues that may arise.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensuring a firm, caring, consistent, well ordered environment is maintained at all times.
2. Support children and young people to develop life skills and independence. This includes practical skills, health, education, social and emotional support.
3. To actively promote and participate in care planning, developing risk assessments and behaviour management.
4. Undertaking regular one to one sessions and demonstrating positive role modelling.
5. Working together with young people to create an effective support plan that meets the needs of each individual.
6. Promoting the social and emotional well-being & development of children and young people and to consistently strive to further develop these skills.
7. Liaising with other staff, professionals, parents and carers as necessary and maintaining high levels of professionalism at all times.
8. To work in partnership with the local authority and ensure both NSL and LA processes are followed, especially with regard to safeguarding.
9. Undertaking any administrative tasks linked to the care of children and young people e.g. keeping appropriate records up to date, writing reports , recording incidents reports, reporting young people missing and keeping the Manager up to date at all times with any significant events.
10. To maintain a log of all accidents, incidents and challenge suspected inappropriate practice according to policies and procedures.
12. Keeping up to date with the organisations policies and procedures and to follow them at all times, undertaking monthly training and attend team meetings.
13. To assist in developing strategies in behaviour management and to take a lead role in managing the young person’s challenging behaviour, implementing the strategies agreed.
14. Assisting with the medical and physical needs of children and young people and to ensure that all young people are encouraged to take part at some level, no matter what the ability. Promoting of young people reaching their own targets.
15. Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons that the jobholder is responsible for, or comes into contact with and to regularly stay updated in relation to any changes within safeguarding legislation and policy. To undertake Level 3 LSCB Safeguarding training during the induction process.
16. Ensuring health care needs of the young people are met, including making appointments and accompanying them and completing written reports following their attendance. To ensure all medical and clinical procedures are carried out safely (under going any relevant training to enhance your skills).
17. To report immediately to management any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of young people – maintaining their right to privacy and confidentiality.
19. To be innovative, creative and flexible, and has an open mind and a willingness to learn.
20. Able to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, self-awareness and acceptance of others.
OTHER DUTIES:
1. To participate in monthly one to one supervision and undertake relevant staff development / training.
2. To be responsible for the health and safety of self and others (in accordance with the NSL’s Health & Safety Policy).
3. To support young people with their educational needs and having good understanding and knowledge of local recourses.
4. To carry out any other appropriate duties requested by the Manager.
6. To undertake daily cleaning tasks to ensure the accommodation maintains a high standard.
7. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young people responsible for (or come into contact with) in accordance with the home’s Safeguarding Policy & Procedures.
