Sheffield City Council are investing in our residential services and we provide consistent, good quality care through 9 children’s homes across the City Council. Our homes provide an environment where young people feel happy to live.
We are looking to appoint a number of full time and part time Residential Support Workers at Aldine House Secure Children's Home. As a Residential Support Worker (RSW) you will be committed to providing the highest standards of care to our young people. You will provide care for the most vulnerable in our society and you will have knowledge of trauma informed practice, social pedagogy and person-centred approach to inform practice; We as a team work continuously to improve the quality of our Children’s homes, ensuring our young people have every opportunity to thrive and develop.
We are licensed to provide care, education and support to ten children and young people aged between 10 and 18. As a specialist service, we provide a critical first-line child protection and public protection service.
Our children and young people need highly skilled, resilient and committed people who can build appropriate safe relationships and support them on their journey to a positive future and enabling our children realise their full potential.
We work with young people who have been placed in secure accommodation either because they are deemed to be too vulnerable to be placed in an open residential placement, they have been sentenced by the courts or they have been placed with us on remand.
Due to the trauma each child has been through this presents a distinct and significant challenge to our team who work together to build positive, safe and secure relationships and help young people make progress in all aspects of their life. All of our team are required to show high levels of resilience and resourcefulness in order to work successfully with our young people.
Our RSWs provide positive, boundaried parenting that is entirely child-centred. We are moving to more therapeutically informed parenting and want like minded individuals to join us on our journey.
Though you do not need to be a parent, we will need you to have experience in residential childcare, youth justice, special education, or a similar field, including those with vulnerable adults. This will enable you to work with individuals and small groups of young people to ensure their day-to-day wellbeing, deliver leisure activities, group work and 1:1 key work sessions.
You must hold, be working towards, or be willing to undertake and complete within 2 years of starting work at the home, the Level 3 Children and Young people’s Workforce Diploma and Social Care Pathway (England) 2015. OR you should hold an equivalent qualification such as The NVQ 3 caring for children & young people and be prepared to complete any additional work to meet the required level. If successful, you will work according to a rota pattern that includes regular weekend working and Bank Holidays. You will be paid at an enhanced rate for ‘unsociable hours’.

Exceptionally competitive salary when factoring in secure unit allowance and enhancements for working unsociable hours.
Residential Childrens Worker roles attract the following additional payments. This Residential Childrens Worker role is shift based (earlies, late’s and sleep in’s) to provide 24hr care.
- Day Rate (Mon - Friday) 6am - 8pm Basic Rate
- Day Rate (Mon - Friday) 8pm - 10pm Basic Rate + 1/5
- Night Rate (Mon - Friday) 10pm - 6am Basic Rate + 1/3rd
- Night Rate (Friday) midnight to 6am Saturday Basic Rate + 1/2 plus 1/3rd
- Weekend Work - 6am to 8pm Basic Rate + 1/2
- Weekend Work -8pm to 10pm Basic Rate + 1/2 plus 1/5th
- Weekend Work - 10pm - 6am Basic Rate + 1/2 plus 1/3rd

As an RSW at Aldine House, you will receive continuous training and ongoing professional development and support to enable you to become an outstanding practitioner. We offer continuous professional development with potential to release you to obtain qualifications through a number of apprenticeships which could be in social work, youth worker, community worker and management qualifications.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year, part time positions are 18.5 and we offer a generous holiday entitlement.
