Residential Support Worker

Residential Support Worker United Kingdom

National Star
Full Time United Kingdom 11.03 - 13.78 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

National Star is recruiting extra special people to join its committed team of care and support workers helping young people with complex disabilities to make the most of their time at college and to live life as independently as possible. For both our long-term residents and students, everything you do will help create a world without limits. Together we make sure they get the personalised care they need, whether they’re socialising or enjoying their passions and hobbies.

The students and long-term residents we support at Bradbury Gardens, situated close to Pittville Park in Cheltenham have a wide range of learning and physical disabilities. Like other young people of the same age many of them love fashion, listening to music, shopping, watching sport and socialising with their friends.

As one of our care and support workers you will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing personalised care for our students and long-term residents, helping them realise their aspirations and enable students to access their lessons.

We are looking for some people with a care background but would also like to encourage those with no experience to come forward as we offer a comprehensive induction and training programme and will help you to achieve your qualifications in health and social care. People with previous experience in retail, administration and hospitality have made a successful transition to become care and support workers at National Star.

What matters most is that you support our values and can demonstrate the potential to develop in this role and have a positive attitude toward the aspirations of young people with disabilities.

Key tasks involve:

Delivering all aspects of personal care including washing, dressing and helping at mealtimes.
Provide support in the classroom or other learning environments, working closely with a specialist tutor.

Plan, organise and accompany residents on days out.
Plan, organise and support high quality evening and weekend leisure activities. This may involve accompanying students to the theatre and cinema, tenpin bowling or other local attractions such as Cadbury World.
Help record student progress against their personal goals
Liaise with family members, enabling a student/resident to speak to parents, friends and family and providing updates on activities and progress
Administer medication to students/residents in line with policy and procedure, after receiving relevant training.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the progress a student makes towards independence!
