This position has the flexibility to be fully remote from anywhere in the U.S. or located from any of AIR's U.S. offices.

- Conducting high-quality research on labor topics of interest for federal, state, and local clients. This work may include:
- Conducting studies of program implementation that aim to understand fidelity, participant experiences, and participant context, and to identify areas for ongoing improvements for policies, programs, and/or practices
- Conducting studies of program outcomes and impact, including designing evaluation procedures, contributing to site recruitment, monitoring site sample, and collecting and analyzing data to produce results
- Providing subject matter and research expertise to projects.
- Over time, serving as a task lead and coordinating and mentoring more junior staff in task execution
- Leading the design and planning of qualitative and/or quantitative data collection instruments including research synthesis protocols, interview protocols, focus group protocols, and surveys
- Coordinating and managing data collection activities including interviews, structured observations, focus groups, and document review
- Analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate statistical methods (e.g., multiple linear regression, HLM, structural equation modeling) and qualitative methods (e.g., content analysis, narrative analysis)
- Disseminating research findings to a wide variety of audiences. This work may include:
- Developing written products and interpreting results so that they are accessible to non-researcher audiences and actionable for policy and practice
- Presenting and disseminating findings to clients, funders, workforce organizations, practitioners, and the public
- Clearly communicating with clients, colleagues, and other internal and external stakeholders and represent AIR in a professional manner
- Engaging in business development activities. This work may include:
- Contributing subject-matter and research methods expertise to projects and proposals
- Writing and contributing to proposals for federal, state, foundation, and other clients and funders
- Contribute to positive team and client relationships. This work may include:
- Helping develop and manage relationships with clients to plan, implement, and present study results while maintaining appropriate professional objectivity
- Working on collaborative project teams, including leading tasks and managing teams and budgets, mentoring research assistants and research associates as a task or functional lead
- Demonstrating cultural competence and sensitivity in interactions with colleagues, stakeholders, and study participants, and promote AIR’s diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in all research and business activities
- Maintaining excellent relationships in the field, serve as a client contact, and actively pursue business development through client relationships, partnership development, and by staying abreast of the direction of the field
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
- PhD in a social science, education, or other related field OR Master's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of research experience
- Research experience in consulting environments and/or with government agencies at the state or federal levels
- Methodological expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods, particularly for studying program implementation and outcomes, supporting program improvement, and working with clients and partners to share actionable results
- Experience with leading data collection activities in the field using a variety of methodologies and data collection techniques such as structured interviews, observations, and survey research
- Experience with leading data analysis activities using descriptive and inferential statistics and managing the analysis of interview and focus group data
- Subject matter experience and interests in research focused on workforce development topics or programs
- Experience managing and contributing to research and evaluation projects, reports, and products
- Interest in behavioral interventions, synthesis work, and communicating research to non-technical audiences is preferred but not required
- Track record of contributing to successful proposal and business development efforts is preferred but not required

- Strong organizational skills, especially as related to leading and managing tasks
- Passion for bringing rigorous evidence to bear on workforce development policy, practice, and decision-making
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds
- Interest in mentoring junior staff over time
- Ability to produce concise, high-level summaries and briefings accessible to broad audiences
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing
- Predictive modeling, web scraping and natural language processing skills are preferred
Disclosures:
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $85,000 - $115,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
