Impact Fluid Solutions (UK) Ltd (IFS) has two full time, permanent vacancies for Research Technicians based in their modern and well equipped R&D Facility in Truro Business Park, Threemilestone, Truro. IFS is a specialist chemical company providing the oil and gas industry with drilling fluid and cementing additives. With increasing worldwide sales, we are expanding our product ranges and investigating new technology to bring to the market. The work involved is split between project based research, quality assurance and technical support to sales. The role can lead to positions involving a greater degree of project management in product development or technical support.
Pay Range:
Market competitive dependent on experience and will be subject to a six month probation period.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform laboratory testing of drilling fluid and cementing additives to produce reliable and precise data to support research and development programmes. In particular, optimisation of formulations.
- Assess raw materials (e.g. polymers, minerals, salts, biomolecules, surfactants) suitable for application, environmental and Health and Safety (H&S) requirements.
- Provide technical support relating to requests from the field.
- Carry out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies.
- Record, document and interpret results to present to senior colleagues or third parties.
- Prepare samples and equipment for testing and/or dispatch to third parties.
- Maintain and operate complex laboratory equipment e.g. Rheometers, consistometers & particle size analysers. Will also include oilfield specific test equipment e.g. PPA, HTHP fluid loss (training given).
- Follow and ensure Health and Safety (H & S) procedures are adhered to in the laboratory and offices (certified training will be given).
- Routine housekeeping within the laboratory.
- Provide support to our QA/QC Lab in Houston, USA.
Personal specification:
This is an entry level position and training will be given. Nevertheless, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Good analytical skills and have a logical and inquisitive approach to lab work
- Attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Good team working skills, are flexible and proactive
- Good written and oral communication skills
Education:
- Minimum qualification of A levels/vocational studies in scientific subject(s)
- A degree is desirable, preferably Chemistry, but not limited to this subject.
Work Experience:
- No previous experience necessary, but relevant practical laboratory work experience is beneficial.
Other considerations:
- No legal restrictions regarding travel to the USA
- Travel to other UK locations with overnight stays may be required.
- This is a permanent role subject to six months probationary period.
