Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic individual interested in how plants interact with soil fungi to join and support research activities of the group led by Professor Katie Field, School of Biosciences. As a Research Technician, you will join an ERC-funded project team investigating the structure, function, and diversity of plant-fungal associations as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists from the University of Sheffield and The Natural History Museum, London. The project seeks to improve our understanding of the role of diverse mycorrhiza-forming fungi in plant nutrition and their wider impacts on plant community structure and function.
You will work closely with Professor Field and other members of the project team to oversee the efficient daily operation of the laboratory and provide essential support for specific research activities, including radio- and stable isotope tracing, coordination and maintenance of experiments, processing and analysis of samples, and routine maintenance of lab equipment. You will assist with laboratory management, including ordering, routine maintenance of equipment, consumables, stocks, etc. This post is the ideal opportunity for the successful candidate to gain new skills and experience in plant-soil processes and offers an excellent opportunity for career development.
You will be enthusiastic about research, have degree-level experience in plant and/or soil and/or environmental science, experience in working with plant and/or soil science protocols, and be effective when working both independently and as part of a team with Research Associates and PhD students. You will be able to communicate effectively and have excellent record keeping skills.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.
