We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dynamic and highly motivated Research Laboratory Technician to join our team within the Division of Cancer at Imperial College London. Under the guidance of Dr Sung Pil Hong, this role offers a unique chance to contribute to ground-breaking research in tumour heterogeneity of oesophageal cancer and the development of innovative ex vivo models for the prediction of drug response.
Duties and responsibilities
As a pivotal member of the team, you will be responsible for the collection, processing, and management of tumour tissue and blood samples integral to the project's success. Your role will extend to the preparation of samples for advanced single-cell technologies and organoids. You will actively engage in tasks crucial to unravelling the intricacies of oesophageal cancer's tumour heterogeneity and the identification of novel therapeutic targets. Operating both independently and as part of a collaborative team, you will carry out experiments, ranging from single-cell technologies and organoid culture to fundamental histology techniques, immunostaining, microscopy (light and fluorescent), western blotting, and PCR analysis. Additionally, your contribution will extend to data analysis, result presentation, and support for students. Your dedication will further encompass the smooth operation and maintenance of the laboratory, along with the execution of experiments that significantly contribute to ongoing research projects.
Essential requirements
- Masters in Molecular, Cellular, or Cancer Biology, or an equivalent field.
- Essential laboratory and research experience, with proficiency in general wet molecular and cellular biology lab techniques.
- Desirable experience in handling human tumour tissue and blood samples.
- While experience in single-cell technologies is not essential, it is advantageous.
- Motivated, adaptable, and capable of independent work while being an effective team player.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills conducive to collaborative multidisciplinary work.
- Familiarity with cancer biology is desirable.
- Aptitude in meeting the essential skills, knowledge, experience, and abilities outlined in the person specification.
