We are looking for:

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an inspiring, experienced and forward-thinking Medicinal Chemistry Leader to provide effective medicinal chemistry expertise and leadership of an integrated small molecule drug discovery program. The Associate Principal Scientist – Medicinal Chemistry role will provide medicinal chemistry project support, logistics and leadership for client projects.

Requirements:


  • PhD degree in the area of Organic / Medicinal Chemistry or equivalent industrial experience
  • Demonstrate expertise in the core medicinal chemistry skills required to support drug discovery projects, with limited guidance from a scientific supervisor / Line Manager. Such skills include but are not limited to, the development of structure-activity relationships, analysis of data and design of compounds to probe appropriate hypotheses in the development of molecules towards clinical candidates.
  • Multi-year experience working in medicinal chemistry gained in academia, Pharma/Biotech and/or CROs.
  • Technically expert and able to work autonomously within the area of expertise with a strong project delivery focus.
  • Experience in both hit-to-lead and lead optimisation phases of compound development would be advantageous
  • Excellent knowledge of medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry, and working knowledge of DMPK/ADME assays and parameters.
  • Organizes and directs own and supervises team efforts, where appropriate.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and/or experience of the drug discovery process for small molecules, from hit identification through to clinical candidate selection.
  • Able to critically review relevant scientific literature and assess patent literature, to ensure compounds are novel, and have freedom to operate, and relevant flowcharts are in place.
  • Familiarity with the use of industry-standard IT tools, data analysis and chemistry software packages.
  • Adapt quickly to new priorities, emerging data and challenges. Communicates clearly and influences effectively. Passion for learning new applications, technologies and skills, contributing to innovation and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrates constant client orientation and focus, developing effective working relationships with clients and customers to enable efficient project progression, and responding in a timely manner to all enquiries.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Design and coordinate core experiments with laboratory teams, interpret results and plan additional experiments in a timely manner to solve assigned problems of high complexity.
  • Use expertise to troubleshoot synthetic issues in collaboration with UK or China-based synthetic chemists.
  • When required by the project, design and execute synthetic chemistry experiments, interpret results, and plan additional experiments in a timely manner to solve problems of high complexity leading to the preparation of the desired target molecules.
  • Actively participate in the identification and implementation of new technologies or methodologies, as appropriate within functional areas, maintaining continuous improvement in function and teamwork processes.
  • Effectively communicate, coordinate and collaborate with clients and cross-functional project groups to ensure that scientific work is appropriately documented via presentations both internally and externally to the client.
