Lead Commercial Scientist

Salary: £42,000 - £56,000 per annum

Job type: Full-time, Permanent, Monday to Friday

Location: Stevenage/Hatfield (reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required))

At ImmuONE, our vision is to transform in vitro inhalation safety assessment by providing the best-in-class in vitro models and tailored in vitro services that most accurately predict in vivo outcomes. We have unique capabilities in the development and commercialisation of immunocompetent 2D and 3D in vitro models and assessments and work with the pharmaceutical, consumer product and chemical sectors globally to provide vital data on safety of new products and pharmacology and efficacy of new therapeutics. Our key focus is on lung toxicology and macrophage responses as well as other mucosal biological barriers (e.g. eye, oromucosa).

What we are looking for:

We are currently looking for an experienced in vitro scientist to lead our expanding commercial in vitro services team. Key aspects of the role include leading and expanding our service portfolio of in vitro services, building our commercial laboratory team and being a study lead executing customer projects. An ideal candidate must have a track-record in developing and validating in vitro cell-based assays in a commercial setting preferably related to drug/product safety and efficacy. Applicants must be able to keep up with the pace of a fast-growing biotech start-up. Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and build our commercial in vitro services team to ensure team objectives are met
  • Manage the in vitro services workflow and personnel
  • Lead the validation, establish and embed new assessments from the R&D team
  • Act as a scientific expert for external projects within your expertise
  • Line manage, train and mentor junior members of the team.
  • Act as a study lead and perform ImmuONE’s portfolio of in vitro assays to GLP
  • Build effective working relationships with key clients
  • Active management of team and project plans ensuring delivery to deadlines
  • Presentation of results and outcomes to customers and at conferences as required
  • Operating and developing quality procedures, and act as a lead for GLP and/or other quality systems required
  • Work across teams to achieve company goals

Person Specification

Essential

  • Completion of BSc studies in Biological Sciences or equivalent subject
  • 8+ years industry experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical/biotech lab environment
  • Previous management experience
  • Expert in mammalian cell culture
  • Expert in cell & molecular biology techniques
  • Prior experience of developing cell-based in vitro assays
  • Prior experience of running in vitro assays to GLP
  • Must be able to drive troubleshooting activities and process optimisation whilst supporting less experienced personnel
  • Track-record of contributing in a team environment
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently, develop and implement work plans
  • Demonstrate ability to lead a team effectively
  • Ability to prioritise a varied workload
  • Proficiency in IT systems (Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and statistical analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience of working with lung, epithelial and/or immune in vitro models
  • Experience in in vitro drug discovery, toxicology and/or immunology
  • Experience of working within formal quality management environment
  • MSc or PhD in relevant subject area
