Cornwall Mining Consultants is seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious Research Geologist (either recent Graduate or with experience) to join our Mining Searches team.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Geological, Environmental or Archaeological sciences and be passionate about Cornwall and it's mining history.
Skills required:
- Basic geological understanding of South West region.
- Experience with QGIS, ArcGIS or similar.
- Map reading/geological mapping.
- Proficient with Ms Office suite.
- Team player and good communicator.
- Attention to detail and conscientious approach essential.
Beneficial experience but not essential (training will be provided):
- Interpretation of underground mine plans and historic documents.
- Theoretic or practical knowledge of mine and/or geological surveying.
- Manipulation and interpretation of satellite and aerial images.
- Application of digital datasets in GIS.
The successful candidate will be trained to research historic mining archive documents; interpret complex mine plans and geological records; appraise aerial and satellite data and predict areas of likely mining subsidence. You will be working in a varied and experienced team producing mining search reports and detailed desk studies for sites throughout the South West. The work is office based with field excursions when the opportunity arises.
