Fixed term for 24 months, 37 hours per week
We are looking to appoint 3 Research Fellows to our Music and Music Technology (MMT) team at the University of Huddersfield. Applications will be considered in any field of research in music and/or music technology.
You will join a vibrant and supportive research team in a UoA that scored very highly in REF2021, being ranked joint 5th (up from joint 16th in REF2014) in terms of GPA, rising to 6th in the Power Ranking, and receiving 4* for Environment.
There is an expectation that you will contribute up to six hours’ teaching per week on MMT courses. In particular, we welcome applications from individuals able to offer teaching in the following areas:
- Song writing
- Popular music performance
- Music business
- Community music
- Music production
- DAW/electronic music production
- Live sound
- Ethnomusicology
- Screen composition and sound
A PhD in a relevant discipline is essential, and you will be expected have a strong track record of publications and be able to contribute significantly to the next REF.

If you are a current student at the University, you are welcome to apply for part-time roles of 15 hours or less per week, unless you are a part-time postgraduate student, in which case you can also apply for full time roles, subject to any visa requirements.
