Local Unit & Position Description:
The Fleet in Service (FiS) service line covers both Ships in Operation and Offshore Units in Operation and our FiS team based in United Kingdom demonstrates daily passion and engagement in both segments. The Ships in Operation team deals with a large variety of vessel types, with special focus on Container Ships, Ferries, Unitized Dry Cargo vessels, Gas tankers, Oil Carriers, Chemical Carriers, Offshore Service vessels, Crane vessels, Passenger Vessels, and HSLC. The work is taking place both afloat, at offshore installation and attending at Yard/Dry-dock facilities within the covered area.

Then we are looking for you to join us as Surveyor for Fleet in Service, based in Liverpool. You will become a member of a highly qualified and enthusiastic FiS team, a top-tier Ship Classification hub. The team is constantly engaged with maritime industry customers, that include international fleet operators, oil majors, and wind turbine service companies. The fleet attended by our team includes wide variety from local fishing vessels to a large-scale floating production units and state of the art deep water drilling units.
Candidate should have necessary technical background and experience to be able to commence work after the orientation and training period. Training timeframe will be agreed with the candidate. Once qualified the candidate will work autonomously at client assets and locations supported by local network of surveyors and DNV’s technical helpdesk. We have a network of various remote technical meetings established to support surveyors working on locations.

Region West Europe is part of the Maritime business area. The Region includes all operational classification business across nine countries and comprises of ~430 employees in 35 locations. The Region operates with three Service Lines: Newbuilding (NB), Certification of Material & Components (CMC) and Fleet in Service (FiS).

Due to the nature of our business and exposure to high-profile clients, the position requires a candidate who can apply and interpret DNV rules and international standards in a competent and common-sense manner whilst maintaining an adequate level of compliance and safety. The role will require a certain self-discipline and strong safety mindset to adapt to dynamically changing conditions and environment.

Main job responsibilities

- Inspection and classification onboard of ships for compliance with DNV Rules for Classification, statutory requirements, international and the UK Standards. This includes inspection of structures and equipment, witnessing testing, audit of procedures and review of documentation
- Strong commitment to environmental protection and energy efficiency
- Conduct all activities in a safe manner with due regard to own safety and safety of others
- Report all survey activities in DNV’s proprietary software and when required, in common Microsoft Office environment
- Liaison with ship and unit crew and management to facilitate the execution of the required survey scopes
- Maintain the confidentiality of customers’ business, processes, designs, developments, and documentation
- Responsibility for own competence and career development within the DNV competency framework and ensure that the appropriate competencies are gained and are kept up to date.
- Assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal / external feedback as appropriate
- Be a lighthouse for the costumers and colleagues, providing assertive advice and guidance in areas of expertise
- Manage own time to meet the demands of the survey workload

Position Qualifications:
Candidate requirements
Master or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (i.e. Naval Architecture, Maritime, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) or Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner or Engineer Class I - Motor)- Experiences as class & statutory surveyor, management system auditor or ship superintendent are advantageous
- Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job, such as climbing pilot ladders, tank inspections, crew boat launches, voyage surveys
- Flexibility to travel, work offshore and outside normal working hours
- Willingness to travel within the UK and within the West Europe region
- Good communication skills in the English language, both verbal and in writing
- Be independent, self-organized team player with a positive customer-oriented mindset
- Asks for and acts on feedback to learn and improve
- Holds a valid UK driver’s license (or equivalent to the recognised standard)
