Job description
The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow led by Dr Dermot Linden and Prof Cliff Taggart within the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
This position will involve analysis and validation of omics-derived data in the area of COPD research.
The successful applicant will have responsibilities in independent research, supervision, planning, day-to-day lab management, collaborations and outreach.
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:
- Obtained or be about to obtain a PhD (i.e recently submitted thesis) in Cell Biology, Immunology or a closely related area.
- At least 3 years’ recent research experience in Cell Biology or immunology to include the following:
- qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting
- Human tissue act – handling and maintenance of samples
- Animal handling.
- Experience teaching/supervising/mentoring postgraduate/undergraduate students and visiting researchers in the laboratory.

This post is fixed term for 12 months or until 31 July 2024, whichever is sooner. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
