Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a Research Engineer – Grid Compliance, to support project delivery of R&D activities related to current and future electrical grid compliance test capabilities.
This role can be based from any of our sites in the UK but will involve travel to Blyth.
The role will be focused on providing technical support, expanding capabilities of existing facilities and research into new control philosophies.
What will I do?
- Work closely with ORE Catapult's world-leading 18 MVA grid emulator (eGrid)
- and brand new 1.2 MVA mini-eGrid facility.
- Support in formulation and delivery of R&D activities in electrical systems-related technology
- Support in developing innovation solutions for offshore renewables-related electrical systems
- Support relationships with universities, research establishments, industry and customers related to Electrical Grid Compliance
- Publish research and represent the Company at forums and conferences
What are we looking for?
- Good working knowledge in electrical control systems/electrical networks used in offshore renewable energy
- Knowledge of wind turbine/wind farm compliance standards
- Experience of EMT and/or small signal modelling techniques
- Electrical Power Hardware in the Loop (P-HIL) testing knowledge
- Degree in engineering or scientific subject, or equivalent experience
- Experience in Electrical Systems / Sub-system modelling
- Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or equivalent
- Experience in producing research and technical reports
- Sound stakeholder management skills
