Full Time Oxford, England 35308 - 37386 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research on topics including, but not limited to:
  • Causality, causal inference, and quantum causal structures
  • Discrete, logical, and/or circuit models of spacetime
  • Definite and indefinite causal structure
  • Process theories and generalised probabilistic theories
As part of the project Quantum Information Structure of Spacetime (QISS; https://www.qiss.fr ) project, funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Along with pursuing specific topics in collaboration with members of the Quantum Group in the Department of Computer Science, candidates should also be willing to engage with the QISS consortium, and integrate their findings into the broader goals of the QISS project.
The primary selection criteria are a PhD or DPhil in computer science or a related field such as physics or mathematics, a strong interest in pursuing fundamental research in the foundations of physics and spacetime, and a strong publication record in quantum information theory, quantum foundations, quantum computing, or an adjacent field.
You will be expected to manage your own research activities, contribute to wider project planning and new project ideas, contribute scientific reports and articles, attend conferences and participate in the broader research programme of the QISS consortium, and (possibly) contribute to co-supervision of research students.
Whilst the role is a grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 (£31,502 - £37,386 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.
We would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic applicants who are currently under-represented within the Computer Science Department.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 29 June 2023. Interviews are expected to be held in July for an expected start date between October 2023 and January 2024.
We are a Stonewall Top 100 Employer, Living Wage and Mindful Employer, holding an Athena Swan Bronze Award, HR excellence in Research and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award.
Our staff and students come from all over the world and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diversity groups and champions, for example http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/aboutus/women-cs-oxford/index.html , as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.
Demonstrating a commitment to provide equality of opportunity. We would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic applicants who are currently under-represented within the Computer Science Department. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.
