Job description
Applications are invited for a two-year post-doctoral research associate position in organic synthesis. This is a Leverhulme Trust project grant with Dr Benjamin Buckley in the Department of Chemistry to investigate the biomimmetic catalytic asymmetric synthesis of the bisorbicillinoids. For a recent publication relevant to the position please see Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2022, 61, e202205278.
The post would ideally suite a candidate with broad training in organic synthesis and knowledge of asymmetric catalysis/natural product synthesis would be advantageous. The project aims to establish a catalytic highly enantioselective biomimmetic approach to the hydroxylative dearomatisation of substituted resorcinols. This will enable access to the enantiomerically enriched bisorbicillinoid family of natural products, e.g. (+)-bisorbicillinol, and crucially, through choice of catalyst, their non-natural enantiomers.
For recent publications from the group and the other areas of research you would be exposed to please also see J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2020, 142, 1780; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2021, 60, 21832; Chem. Sci. 2020, 11, 9109 and Chem. Sci. 2021, 12, 13373.
This a 24-month full-time position to commence on or after 01/08/2023.
Informal enquiries should be made to Dr Benjamin R Buckley, Reader in Synthetic Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 01509 228752.
Visa Sponsorship:
For candidates who would require sponsorship to work in the UK to achieve sufficient points under the Points Based Immigration System, it is likely that you will either need to:
- Have completed a PhD in a subject relevant to the job.
OR
- Qualify as a “new entrant”. For more information on this please see paragraphs SW 12.1 - SW 12.7 of the Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Worker.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 5 July 2023
