The Department of Life Sciences wish to appoint a Research Associate to join the Serology Research Group.

The Serology group have internationally recognised expertise in identifying autoantibodies in Rheumatic disease, particularly Myositis. Your role will be to undertake a specific project investigating the inter-laboratory variability of myositis specific autoantibody testing. This will involve the use of commercial and in-house assays to detect myositis specific autoantibodies, coordination of sample testing across multiple sites and coordination of a consensus exercise collating expert opinion. The role will involve working closely with experts in the field and will provide an opportunity to further develop transferrable, non-laboratory skills such as project management.

About the role

In addition to laboratory work the project will involve coordinating with other laboratories in the UK and abroad, to share samples and collate results. This is an interdisciplinary project and you will work closely with health professionals and clinical scientists. The Serology group host PhD students and Clinical Fellows and your role will include provision of some laboratory supervision and training.

About you

You will have a PhD degree in subject area of direct relevance for the project, or equivalent significant relevant experience and professional qualification. You will have Post doctoral research experience in immunology, with experience of relevant laboratory techniques. You will be an effective team player, with excellent organisational skills capable of working independently when needed.
