The project is funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and the EPSRC funded MAPP program, with strong industry support, on the development of Additive Manufacturing and com. You will work in a leading materials research team in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, as well as working alongside other digital manufacturing researchers at the University of Sheffield and other top UK universities.
You will be the main experimental contributor to the research project ‘Digital Qualification Platform for Advanced Alloy Components’. Objectives are to:
1. Lead in the delivery of ATI project ‘Digital Qualification Platform for Advanced Alloy Components”, working to accelerate the qualification of aerospace components by reducing physical testing needs.
2. Characterise the material produced from AM experiments, enabling correlation between in-situ data collection and post-manufacturing characterisation.
3. Work on developing new characterization and monitoring methods to gain insight into the materials physics during manufacturing.
Applicants will have a PhD (or be close to completion) in materials science, engineering, physical science, or other relevant discipline.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
