Job description
An exciting position for a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate with experience of mammalian gene expression technology is available to carry out research and development underpinning commercial manufacture of commercial production of viral vectors for gene therapy.
This project is funded by the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (Guy’s Hospital, London), a centre of excellence in innovation, driving the growth of the cell and gene therapy industry.
Together, we aim to mechanistically understand and improve AAV production by HEK cells in culture. The post-holder will work in partnership with scientists at Sheffield and Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult to improve production titre and quality of AAV produced by engineered HEK cells through engineering and isolation of HEK cell hosts with an improved AAV manufacturing capability. This is a fixed-term post for 18 months; the successful applicant will be working under the supervision of Professor David James and Dr Adam Brown at Sheffield in collaboration with Dr Maria Barreira and Dr Julie Kerby at the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult.
We are looking for independent researchers who have demonstrated their ability to perform and ideally publish high quality research. You will possess a PhD in a biological science or bioengineering, have excellent mammalian cell culture skills, and expertise in one or more of the following areas: molecular biology, bioinformatic analysis, and recombinant gene expression. This post involves collaboration with an industrial partner and a wider team of researchers, and accordingly the candidate will have excellent communication and team-working skills. The successful candidate will have excellent opportunities to interact with biopharmaceutical companies, present research findings externally, and contribute to research publications.
If you are passionate about bioscience and next-generation therapies that transform the way that disease is treated, then we would love to hear from you.
