Full Time Sheffield, England 38474 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

There is an exciting opportunity in the School of Education for a Research Associate to undertake research and knowledge exchange activities based around the project entitled, ‘'Growing up multilingual with Chinese Heritage - local and global perspectives'. The project aims to work with children from heritage Chinese backgrounds to co-construct two strands of research - a global collection or written submissions (essays, poetry, etc.), encouraging children to share what growing up multilingual with Chinese heritage means to them, and a local interview study, exploring the same themes in Sheffield.

You will have excellent organisational and communication skills. You will have excellent knowledge of both Mandarin Chinese and English, with additional Chinese languages and/or dialects being a bonus. You will be able to work independently, working with both children and organisations as partners. Working with the PI Dr Sabine Little, you will recruit a group of young co-researchers, before identifying themes for the project and organising the two research strands. You will organise fieldwork and communication locally and internationally, and co-organise a local exhibition and conference. Ideally, you will have prior experience of co-produced research, and a background in research around multilingualism, language acquisition, identity and/or belonging. You will contribute to writing up the project and disseminating the findings to academic and non-academic audiences, including via international conferences. In performing these tasks, you will liaise closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and partners.

We are one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
