About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the European Research Council -HANDMADE team in the School of Archaeology as a Research Associate. The project ’HANDMADE: Understanding Creative Gesture in Pottery Making’ (https://handmade.web.ox.ac.uk/home), is led by the Principal Investigator, Professor Lambros Malafouris. The successful applicant will conduct research on the cognitive archaeology of making with a primary focus on ceramics. You will contribute to excellence in research as a member of the HANDMADE team, carrying out analysis, interpretation and dissemination of results as well as working on peer reviewed journal articles and co-organising an international workshop in Oxford. The post holder will be based in Oxford and will be expected to work closely with the project team, participate in team meetings and to project-related activities such as conference organisation, collaborative publications with other team members, and the processing of visual material.
This post is a fixed-term contract for 10 months. The funds for this post are available until July 2024.
About you
You will hold a PhD / DPhil (or recently submitted doctoral thesis) in Archaeology, Anthropology or Philosophy, or a related field with prior experience in cognitive and/or anthropological archaeology and a research focus in the study of skilled material practices and material engagement theory. You will have experience of interdisciplinary research method and have excellent communication skills including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at public meetings.
