Job description
The role
We invite applications from researchers in social sciences or law working on trade law and/or policy for a Research Associate position at the University of Bristol.
The successful applicant will work on the project, Improving the Sustainability Practice of the UK’s Trade Agreements, which explores the effective implementation of trade & sustainable development (TSD) chapters under UK free trade agreements (FTAs). The successful applicant will work with the project lead, Gregory Messenger, to develop novel policy-relevant research to better understand the place of implementation in a FTA’s lifecycle and, more specifically, the practice of implementation in relation to commitments under TSD chapters. The successful applicant will be involved in working with policy actors, both to further the project’s research aims and to disseminate its findings.
The successful applicant will be based in University of Bristol Law School, a leading UK law school with an international reputation for outstanding teaching and research. Ranked 3rd in the Times Higher Education analysis of legal research in REF2021, the law school is home to a diverse and inclusive academic community.
This project is funded by PolicyBristol from the Research England QR Policy Support Fund (QR PSF) 2022-24.
What will you be doing?
You will work closely with the project lead to conduct independent research on trade law and policy, the practice of trade agreements, and the effective implementation of trade and sustainable development commitments under them. You will support the production and dissemination of the project’s findings and manage key relationships between the project team and key stakeholders (in particular, policy actors).
You should apply if
you have research expertise in the field of trade law and/or policy and have an interest in sustainable development. You should be an active researcher, looking to build your own research profile and develop networks across academia and the policy world.
