Job description
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
The Finance for Environmental and Social Systemic Centre at the Department for Land Economy invites applications for a two full-time Research Assistant positions (flexible and part-time work can be considered). The appointments are fixed term for 12 months, with potential for extension, subject to funding.
Against a backdrop of ever-accelerating climate change and worsening inequality, the Centre aims to enact rapid and meaningful change within the existing financial system while also contributing to the emergence of a new paradigm.
The Research Assistants will work on a mixed portfolio of projects including: developing a 1.5°C-aligned corporate bond index, galvanising an action-oriented initiative with a group of major global asset owners, preparing for senior-level bank engagements and other approaches to operationalising universal ownership theory. The work will include research and administrative activities from literature reviews to workshop organisation and fact-finding. The RAs may contribute to the writing of research reports and publications.
This is a great opportunity for candidates with a strong interest in addressing systemic risks such as the climate and biodiversity loss crises, and an understanding of how sustainable finance intersects with other systemic issues such as racism, income and wealth disparities, forced migration and gender inequality. One of the key things we're looking for is someone who is passionate about these issues and curious to learn more.
The ability to work collaboratively is essential, and experience of conference or workshop organisation is desirable. We encourage applications from those with knowledge of and interest in sustainable finance, climate science, energy systems, or economics. Some financial analysis experience and/or quantitative skills would be an advantage.
No specific professional or academic qualifications are required. Non-graduate applicants are welcome.
The closing date for applications is 11 August 2023. Interviews will be held shortly after shortlisting.
We especially welcome applications from people that identify as LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and those on universal credit.
