Job description

We are recruiting a Researcher on a 1-year post in the first instance to join Prof. Bénédicte Sanson's group in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, at the University of Cambridge. Recruitment can be either at Research Assistant or Research Associate level, providing an excellent opportunity, for example, for a recent graduate to gain research experience or for a postgraduate to start a postdoctoral stay in the field of Developmental Cell Biology.

BBSRC funding for the project has been applied for and if successful, will be available to extend the position. We will also support applications to PhD programs (Research Assistant level) and to postdoctoral Fellowships (Research Associate level). We are an inclusive and welcoming group, committed to mentoring and supporting the career development of all members.

Prof. Bénédicte Sanson's group pursues an integrated program of research to investigate the mechanisms of developmental morphogenesis in vivo. The aim of the group's research is to discover how genetic programs and physical forces interact to shape developing epithelial tissues, using the early Drosophila embryo as an exceptionally accessible model. The group's approaches include molecular genetics, live imaging, advanced confocal microscopy, image analysis, computational analysis of cell and tissue behaviour and mathematical modelling.

We are looking for a candidate enthusiastic about research and with an excellent academic background in biology. The successful candidate will work on a new research strand in the group aiming at elucidating how tricellular junctions act as organisers of epithelial morphogenesis. This project will use a range of approaches including molecular biology (e.g. CRISPR), live imaging, image analysis and PAINT super-resolution microscopy (in collaboration with Prof. Daniel St Johnston's group at the Gurdon Institute).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
