About the role
LongITools is a H2020 European research project studying the interactions between the environment (in particular pollution), lifestyle and health in determining the risks of chronic cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Dr. Gabriella Conti, the Principal Investigator, is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work on the LongITools Project. The details of these duties will be assigned by Dr. Conti. This will involve work on collecting and processing spatial (GIS) and non-spatial data, converting non-GIS maps and textual descriptions of localities into shapefiles, and may include conducting and reporting analyses. This post is available immediately for up to four months in the first instance.
About you
- The postholder will be responsible for executing various data tasks relating to the evolution of historical Smoke Control Areas (SCAs) and otherwise contributing to amassing a database of air pollution and its determinants in England and Wales.
- To contribute to the overall activities of the department as required.
- As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the postholder.
- The postholder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or Head of Department/Division.
- The post holder will actively follow UCL policies including Equal Opportunities and Race Equality policies.

What we offer
The starting salary for this position will be Grade 6B, Point 25-27 of UCL Salary Scales (£36,832 – £38,466) per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
This will be a part-time position initially for 4 months with the possibility of renewal given sufficient funding. The UCL full-time working week is 36.5 hours. Exact working arrangements are determined by Professor Gabriella Conti. In addition, staff benefit from six College closure days per year.
The person appointed will work at the offices of the Department of Economics, Drayton House, 30 Gordon Street, London WC1H 0AX.
