Job description
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join Professor Elliott’s laboratory at the University of Oxford. You will be joining a motivated group investigating antigen processing, T cell regulation and immunodominance, and how to utilize this information to develop novel immunotherapies. You will play a critical role in this research, being key to the collection and preparation patient samples, co-ordination of experiments, and being central to ensuring the lab runs smoothly.
You will be responsible for undertaking the research described by carrying out laboratory work involving a wide spectrum of immune, molecular and cellular approaches including “cell and tissue culture including isolation of primary human cells” and “isolation of nucleic acids, preparation of samples for high throughput sequencing”. You will be working closely with the group head and keep them up to date with progress and difficulties in the research project. You will also be responsible to ensure that work in the laboratory is conducted safely and, in particular, persons undertaking work do so using appropriate safety procedures and in the dedicated areas.
It is essential that you hold a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology or related field, with experience in immunological assays, preferably including the development and optimization of high dimensional flow cytometry. You will have self-motivation with exceptional organizational skills, capable of independently prioritizing experiments and working efficiently, delivering results to required standard according to agreed schedules. You will also have the ability to work within a team effectively.
