Job description

The University of Reading is seeking to appoint a research assistant to work on a Wellcome Trust Trust funded project aiming to better understand perceptual decision-making in autism. The project involves collecting behavioural responses to visual information from autistic and typically developing children as part of an ongoing, in-person study. Additionally, the post-holder will develop an online study assessing perceptual decision-making in autistic and non-autistic adults. The post-holder will also have the opportunity to learn about computational modelling analysis techniques.

The research assistant will be based in the Centre for Autism and the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences and will work closely with Dr Catherine Manning (PI).

The post is available on a full-time basis for 12 months starting on 17/07/2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will have:

  • A good undergraduate degree (2.1 or higher) in psychology or a related field
  • Experience conducting research with school-aged children, or equivalent experience working with school-aged children
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children, families, teachers and other professionals
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team to achieve the project goals.
  • Strong organisational and time-keeping skills and the ability to manage own research and administrative duties
